Shift work moves the clock
Most health apps assume a life that sleeps at night and trains after work. Nights, rotations and on-call weeks break that assumption, and with it most of the advice. Gearstack Health is shaped around irregular schedules: the day starts when the user’s day starts, sleep counts whenever it happens, and readiness is read against the reality of the current rotation instead of an ideal morning that never comes.
Sleep in parts still counts
After a night shift, sleep often comes in two blocks: a few hours in the morning, a nap before the next shift. The app records multi-part sleep as one day’s recovery instead of punishing the pattern with a broken score. What matters is the total picture, how much sleep the 24 hours contained, how deep it was and how it compares with the user’s own shift weeks, not whether it happened between ten and six.
Readiness computed per rotation
HRV and resting heart rate react to night work the way they react to training: the load shows up in the morning values. Reading them against a personal baseline makes the third night shift comparable with the first, and it shows when a rotation is being absorbed or when it starts to drag the numbers down week after week. That distinction, tired today versus running down for a month, is exactly what a glance at a single day cannot see.
Training placed where it fits
Training during shift weeks is a placement problem: the session that fits after a free day overloads the day after three nights. The calendar keeps training, football, running and recovery visible next to the shift rhythm, and readiness suggests which days carry intensity. Users keep their sport without gambling their recovery on it.
A short check-in after the shift
A health app for shift workers earns its place on the worst days, after the third night, before the next one. The first layer stays direct: what changed, what matters, what is realistic today, readable in under a minute. Everything deeper is one tap away and never required.
Wellness product, no medical claims
The app describes general wellness under demanding schedules and supports habit decisions; it is not a diagnosis. Long-term shift work is a recognized strain on health, and persistent exhaustion, sleep problems or mood changes belong in a conversation with a doctor, with or without data.
